The Valley of the Queens has been part of the so-called Classic Tour, along with the Valley of the Kings and Deir el Bahri. This seems to be a throwback to the days when Nefertari's tomb was open to the public, and a visit to this small set of tombs was one of the highlights of a visit to the West Bank. Now, with no hope of visiting Nefertari's tomb (unless one wants to spend a small fortune), the Valley is still being visited by most of the tour buses. There is an appalling bazaar area - annoying because the visitor has possibly bought souvenirs at one of the earlier sites, and only 3 smallish tombs to visit.
Isn't it about time that other sites, of possible greater interest replaced the Valley - I would suggest that the Tombs of the Nobles are more interesting, or the Ramesseum, which gets very few visitors.

Well, Valley of the Queens sounds a lot more impressive than Noble's Tombs. The tourists probably don't know what they are missing but yet can't leave without a visit to this impressive sounding site. Also, parking is an issue. Where are you going to park a lot of buses at the other sites? Also, visiting some of the Noble's Tombs requires a lot of time consuming walking.

True, Nicole - but the Nobles tombs area has a reasonable car/coach park, as does the Ramesseum. The Valleys of the Kings, and Queens involves quite a bit of walking, whereas the tomb of Ramose is about 100 metres from the nobles car park, and the tomb of Rekhmire is about as far from the car park as the tomb of Rameses III is from the entrance to the Valley of the Kings. The Assassif tombs, which are quite beautiful, are within walking distance from the ticket office at Deir el Bahri.
Don't get me wrong, I'm quite glad that these places don't get hordes of visitors - it makes it more enjoyable for me (selfishly) when I visit them!

I always try and encourage people to visit the Nobles rather than the Queens as I feel it gives them a better picture of things if they are only doing three West Bank sites. Scenes of everyday life are much more interesting to the layman as well, also I find kids love them, especially where there are children in the scenes.
